What I Learned from Leadership Rockford as a Local Business Owner

Recently, I had the opportunity to experience that firsthand.

On March 26, 2026, I graduated from the Leadership Rockford program through the Greater Rockford Chamber of Commerce. After eight months of learning, conversations, and connection, I walked away with a deeper appreciation for the people and organizations shaping our community every day.

And more importantly—I walked away with lessons that directly impact how I serve homeowners as a local roofing company in Rockford.


What Is Leadership Rockford?

Leadership Rockford is an eight-month leadership development program designed to give local professionals a deeper understanding of how the Rockford region works.

From economic development to nonprofit leadership to local government, the program provides behind-the-scenes access to the systems and people that keep our community moving forward.

It’s not just about leadership in theory—it’s about understanding how to contribute in a meaningful, practical way.


Lesson #1 — Community Is Built by People Who Show Up

One of the biggest takeaways for me was this:

Rockford is full of people who care deeply—and they’re actively working to make things better.

Throughout the program, we met leaders from businesses, nonprofits, and public organizations who are investing their time and energy into improving the community.

That reinforced something I’ve always believed:

A strong community doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built by people who choose to show up.

As a business owner, that’s a responsibility I take seriously.


Lesson #2 — Leadership Means Serving Others Well

Leadership Rockford consistently emphasized that leadership isn’t about titles—it’s about service.
